Jaques Richmond is a residential precinct in Richmond that contains 377 expertly crafted apartments and townhouses designed by Fender Katsalidis that tell a remarkable story of urban regeneration. Formally the Jaques Bros Foundry, an engineering business that produced rock crushing machinery from 1885 – 1997, this residential development has transformed an industrial relic into a contemporary piece of architecture that is sympathetic to its surrounding streetscape and provides the community with much needed inner city urban living. In 1997, Clement Lee purchased the historic site and nurtured it for 12 years while the Richmond precinct matured from industry and manufacturing into a cultural and vibrant inner-city suburb. After working closely with the local community and Council for a number of years, the foundry has been reborn into high quality inner city residences that responded to the significant demand for large format owner occupier housing.
